Before royal titles, global headlines, and worldwide recognition, Meghan Markle was simply a young girl growing up in Los Angeles. Her childhood was shaped by ordinary routines, family influences, and questions about identity in a diverse American city.

Born on August 4, 1981, Meghan is the daughter of Doria Ragland and Thomas Markle Sr.. Her mother is Black and her father is white, giving Meghan a biracial background that played an important role in her early life. Although her parents separated when she was young, both contributed to her upbringing and helped shape her values.

Growing up biracial in the 1980s and 1990s sometimes meant navigating social environments where identity categories felt rigid. While at the university, she participated in theater productions and internships that prepared her for a career in entertainment.

Following graduation, Meghan returned to Los Angeles and began auditioning for acting roles. Like many aspiring performers, she initially faced a long period of small roles and auditions.
