In the late summer of 1995, Diana, Princess of Wales met heart surgeon Hasnat Khan at Royal Brompton Hospital while visiting a friend whose husband had recently undergone heart surgery. The meeting was brief, but Diana reportedly noticed the doctor’s calm presence and quiet professionalism amid the busy hospital environment.

At the time, Diana was 34 and separated from Charles III, then known as Prince Charles. She had become deeply involved in humanitarian work, often visiting hospitals, shelters, and charitable organizations. During this period, she focused on connecting directly with people in need rather than the formal responsibilities of royal life.

Hasnat Khan, a respected British-Pakistani cardiac surgeon, was known among colleagues for his dedication to medicine and his steady composure in the operating room. Unlike many people Diana encountered in public life, he was largely indifferent to celebrity culture and treated her as he would any other visitor. This straightforward approach reportedly appealed to Diana, who often struggled with the pressures of global fame.

Although their first conversation was short, Diana remained curious about the doctor she had met. In the weeks that followed, she returned to the hospital several times—initially to check on her friend, but also to see Khan again. Gradually, their conversations grew longer and more personal, moving beyond polite greetings to shared laughter and thoughtful discussions.
