She pressured him everyday … see more

Final exams were only a week away, and Ethan already felt overwhelmed.

He had everything planned carefully: headphones charged, notes organized, coffee ready beside him.

Quiet. Focus. No distractions.

At least, that was the plan.

A few minutes after he settled into his favorite corner of the library café, someone sat across from him.

At first, he barely noticed. He kept his eyes on the textbook in front of him, determined to stay focused.

Then he heard a long sigh.

He ignored it.

A minute later came the soft tapping of fingernails against the table.

Still, Ethan stayed focused on his notes.

Until the girl across from him finally spoke.

“Do you know the Wi-Fi password here?”

Ethan looked up from behind his glasses. “I think it’s written on the wall over there.”

She glanced back and smiled. “Oh. Right.”

That should have been the end of the conversation.

But a few minutes later, she asked another question.

“Do you know what time the café downstairs closes?”

“I think around eight,” Ethan replied.

“Good to know.”

For a while, things went quiet again.

Then came another question. And another.

Sometimes it was about the café. Sometimes about school. Sometimes just random comments about how stressful exam season was.

Little by little, Ethan realized he was losing focus.

Not because she was being rude—but because she was easy to talk to.

Normally, conversations with new people made him nervous. Especially during stressful weeks like finals.

But she seemed completely relaxed, joking with him like they had known each other for years.

At one point, Ethan accidentally looked up from his notes at the exact moment she looked over.

She smiled immediately.

“What?” she asked.

“Nothing,” he answered quickly, looking back down.

She laughed softly.

By then, Ethan had reread the same paragraph several times without remembering any of it.

Finally, he closed his textbook with a sigh.

“You know,” he said, “I actually came here to study.”

“I know,” she replied with a grin.

“You’re making that kind of difficult.”

“Am I?”

Ethan couldn’t help laughing a little.

The truth was, he wasn’t really annoyed.

Talking to her felt surprisingly natural. Easy, even.

That didn’t happen often for him.

She leaned back in her chair. “You’re pretty shy, aren’t you?”

“A little.”

“A little?” she laughed. “You looked nervous just answering the Wi-Fi question.”

“That’s because you kept talking to me out of nowhere.”

“Maybe I wanted to.”

For a moment, Ethan didn’t know what to say.

She noticed immediately and laughed again.

By the end of the evening, Ethan barely finished half of what he planned to study.

But as they packed up their things and walked out together, he realized something important:

Sometimes unexpected conversations can turn an ordinary day into one you remember for a long time.
