The Farmers’ Almanac Predicts A “Wild Ride” For Winter 2025-26

After the record-breaking snow and extreme cold of winter 2024–2025, the *Farmers’ Almanac* is forecasting another chilly season ahead. The 209th edition calls for a “Chill, Snow, Repeat” pattern across much of the U.S., especially from the Northern Plains to New England. While not expected to be as harsh as last year, cold weather could arrive earlier than usual, with the first wintry blasts hitting before the official start of winter on Dec. 21.

Snow lovers in the Northern Plains may even see a White Christmas. The Almanac warns that winter could linger well into March—and possibly April—in regions like the Great Lakes, New England, and the Northern Plains.

The Climate Prediction Center notes that a potential La Niña could shape the season, typically bringing cold, snowy weather to the Northwest, dry conditions to the South, and warmer temperatures to the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.

**Regional Highlights:**

* **Northeast & Northern Plains**: Coldest temperatures of the season; sharp cold snap Jan. 8–15; late January storm activity.
* **Midwest**: Snowy New Year’s Day in northern Michigan/Wisconsin; major Great Lakes snowstorm Feb. 8–11; more snow in early March.
* **Northwest**: Chilly, wet, heavy mountain snow; strong ski season.
* **North Central States**: “Classic winter wonderland” with frequent snowstorms; possible Easter snow.
* **Southeast**: Mild but wet; northern areas may see winter precipitation in January.
* **Texas & South Central**: Cold, wet; snow/freezing rain possible in northern Texas.
* **California & Southwest**: Mild with periodic rain; late January storms could reduce wildfire risk.

The *Farmers’ Almanac* advises Americans to brace for a long, drawn-out winter with plenty of snowy surprises.
