A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Baraboo, Wisconsin, after 10-year-old Kodie Dutcher was reported missing on July 6, 2020. What began as an urgent search involving local authorities and emergency responders ended in devastating news for her family and the surrounding community.
Kodie was last seen at approximately 4 p.m. in the 1100 block of 12th Street. When officers arrived at the apartment complex around 5:40 p.m., they spoke with her mother and gathered information that raised serious concerns about the young girl’s safety.
According to the police account, Kodie had left her phone and shoes behind before disappearing. Authorities believed she was traveling on foot, prompting an immediate search of the surrounding neighborhoods and nearby areas.
As concerns grew, an Amber Alert was issued, bringing additional attention to the missing child. The Baraboo Police Department coordinated search efforts with assistance from the Baraboo Fire Department and Wisconsin Dells K-9 teams.
Emergency personnel worked to locate Kodie as quickly as possible, searching areas around her last known location. The situation drew attention as authorities continued their efforts to bring her home safely.
Unfortunately, the search ended in tragedy on July 7, 2020. Authorities confirmed that Kodie’s body had been discovered at approximately 11 a.m. near 11th Street and County Highway T, not far from her home.
The information available about the case did not establish an official cause of death. Although police had previously expressed concerns that Kodie might harm herself, those concerns should not be treated as confirmation of what happened.
The loss of such a young life was a deeply painful outcome to a search that had begun with hopes of finding her safe.
Kodie Dutcher’s story remains a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of protecting vulnerable children, recognizing signs of emotional distress, and responding quickly when a child goes missing.
Her story deserves to be remembered with compassion, dignity, and respect for the family affected by this tragedy.
