A 3-Inch Nail Pierced His Brain — And Somehow, This Little Boy Survived 😱
A 7-year-old boy from India is recovering after surviving a terrifying accident that left a nail lodged in his brain. The child, from the Balrampur district, was playing when he fell onto an iron nail. The nail pierced through his neck and extended upward into his skull, “barely missing a blood vessel,” according to doctors at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow.
He was first taken to a private hospital before being transferred to KGMU on May 16. MRI scans revealed the nail had traveled from the lower part of his neck and jaw into his brain, dangerously close to vital nerves and arteries. Medical experts said the injury could have been instantly fatal if the nail had struck a blood vessel or entered a different part of the skull.
Faced with this life-threatening scenario, a team of neurosurgery and ENT specialists at KGMU performed a complex, four-hour operation. “The nail had to be carefully removed while avoiding damage to the brain and sensitive nerves between the mouth and the brain,” explained Prof. Samir Misra of the trauma surgery department. The precision required was immense, as even the slightest error could have had devastating consequences.
Thankfully, the surgery was successful. The boy was moved to KGMU’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, where he remained under close supervision. Doctors reported that he was recovering well and expected to be discharged once stable.
KGMU officials noted that the case will be documented as a significant medical achievement. A detailed report on the procedure is set to be published in an international journal, providing valuable insights for medical professionals worldwide.
For now, the boy’s survival is being hailed as nothing short of miraculous.
