Prince Harry has shared a touching memory about the moment he and Meghan Markle revealed their first pregnancy — and Prince William’s reaction might surprise many.

In his memoir *Spare*, Harry recalled that he and Meghan chose Princess Eugenie’s wedding in October 2018 as the perfect time to share their joyful news with close family members. The Duke of Sussex explained that after the drinks reception at St. George’s Hall, the couple quietly pulled William aside to tell him they were expecting their first child, now known to the world as Prince Archie.

Harry described the intimate moment: “We were in a big room, suits of armour on the walls. Strange room, strange moment. We whispered the news, and Willy smiled and said, ‘We must tell Kate.’” Though Harry suggested waiting, William insisted, so they approached Kate Middleton, who was chatting across the room. “She also gave a big smile and hearty congratulations,” Harry wrote, adding that their reactions were “exactly as I’d hoped.”

At the time, Kensington Palace publicly confirmed the news, stating the couple were “delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public” and grateful for the support they had received since their wedding earlier that year.

While this warm moment stands out, relations between the brothers have since cooled. After Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020, tensions reportedly deepened — particularly following their Netflix docuseries *Harry & Meghan* and Harry’s candid revelations in *Spare*.

Still, the Duke of Sussex has expressed his enduring affection for his homeland. During a recent visit to the U.K. for the WellChild Awards, he said, “I have always loved the U.K. and I always will. It’s been good to reconnect with the causes I am passionate about and spend time with people I’ve known for so long.”

Despite the distance — both emotional and geographic — Harry’s recollection of William and Kate’s joyful reaction remains a poignant reminder of happier times within the royal family.
