Scientists were shocked to discover plastic particles in the blood of 80% of study participants. These particles, originating from polluted air, oceans, and even Mount Everest, highlight the extent of human-driven pollution.

Plastic consumption through food and water isn’t new, but this study marks the first time plastic has been found in human blood. Tests revealed PET plastic from drink bottles in half of the samples, polystyrene from food packaging in a third, and polyethylene, the most common plastic, in a quarter.

Professor Dick Vethaak from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam emphasized the need for further research to understand the long-term health effects, especially since babies and young children are more vulnerable.

Key concerns include whether plastic particles can reach vital organs or contribute to diseases like cancer. With plastic production rising, Vethaak calls for urgent research and action to reduce pollution.

This discovery serves as a crucial wake-up call: our planet—and health—depend on immediate environmental responsibility.
