Imagine driving along scenic Highway 50 toward Elmdale, Kansas, then turning westward. Within 90 minutes, you’re enveloped by authentic serenity—rustling leaves, unpolluted night skies, and golden tranquility.

Deep in West Chase County, surrounded by lush soybean fields and embraced by a gentle creek valley, stands an extraordinary vacation rental: the Owl’s Nest Silo House.

**From Vision to Reality**

Gerald Wiens initially built a log cabin in 2019 for sporadic weekend rentals. “We thought just a couple weekends a month,” he said. But during the pandemic, the Paw Print Cabin was occupied over 180 nights!

Nearby stood an old silo in commendable shape, sparking an ambitious idea. With creativity, sketches, and brainstorming, Gerald embarked on converting the circular structure into a living space—though the unique shape presented challenges.

“We just looked at many ideas. We had little models drawn. We had different floor plans,” Gerald told KSN.

**A Four-Floor Marvel**

The result? A stunning 45-foot-tall, four-story retreat.

The entryway flows into a unique circular living room featuring two plush leather chairs perfect for conversation or reflection. A modern flat-screen TV is mounted above a magnificent stone-framed gas fireplace, offering entertainment or ambiance. Cleverly tucked under the winding staircase is a discreet half bathroom.

The crown jewel awaits at the top: a fourth-floor master bedroom reached by ascending 45 winding stairs—an extraordinary journey to the pinnacle of comfort.

**A Labor of Love**

The log cabin is already listed on Airbnb under “Vacation Rentals Chase County,” with the silo house soon joining.

“To say it’s been a labor of love—we spent so much time here. If you had to pay me to do this, I’d hate to say how many hours it took because it’s not your typical construction,” Gerald reflected.

For those seeking authentic Kansas serenity wrapped in creative architecture, the Owl’s Nest Silo House offers an unforgettable escape where rustic charm meets innovative design.
