Ahmed Al-Ahmed, the man hailed as a hero for disarming one of the Bondi Beach shooters, has been photographed recovering in hospital and says he would act the same way again if faced with a similar situation. Despite severe injuries, he has expressed no regret for intervening to protect others.

According to his former migration lawyer, Sam Issa, Al-Ahmed’s injuries are far more serious than initially reported. Issa said the 43-year-old suffered five gunshot wounds and has undergone multiple surgeries, describing his condition as critical and ongoing.

Issa explained that Al-Ahmed currently has no feeling in his arm and may have suffered nerve damage. While doctors continue to assess the long-term impact, the pain and physical toll have begun to weigh heavily on him during recovery.

“He doesn’t regret what he did,” Issa said. “He told me he would do it again. But he is struggling right now. Our hero is not well at all.” Despite this, Al-Ahmed remains resolute about his actions.

Footage of Al-Ahmed confronting gunman Sajid Akram, grabbing him from behind, and wrestling away his firearm spread rapidly online. Witnesses say his quick thinking likely prevented an even greater loss of life.

Rather than using the weapon, Al-Ahmed placed it aside as the attacker fled. Moments later, another armed individual opened fire, and Al-Ahmed was struck in the shoulder and arm while taking cover behind a tree.

The second suspect, Akram’s son, was later hospitalized under police guard, while Akram himself was fatally shot by police at the scene. Al-Ahmed was taken to St George Hospital, where he remains under care.

Public support has poured in worldwide. More than $1.2 million has been raised through crowdfunding, including a major donation from billionaire Bill Ackman, reflecting global admiration for Al-Ahmed’s courage and selflessness.
