The lifeless body of an unidentified young woman was discovered in a hotel in the Igbogene area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Saturday, sparking fear and speculation among local residents.

According to community sources, the woman had checked into the hotel with a young man suspected to be an internet fraudster, commonly known as a “Yahoo boy.” Shortly after their arrival, the man allegedly left the premises, leaving the woman alone. Hours later, the hotel manager reportedly found her body and promptly alerted the Igbogene Divisional Police Headquarters.

A local source told *PUNCH Metro*: “The lifeless body of a young girl was found in a hotel at Igbogene on Saturday, causing confusion in the area. She lodged in the hotel with a suspected Yahoo boy who left immediately after. The hotel manager reported the incident to the police.”

The Bayelsa State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Musa Muhammad, confirmed the case, stating that investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the suspect. “We received the report yesterday. No arrest has been made for now, but we are making serious efforts to ensure the culprits are brought to book. An autopsy will also be conducted to determine the cause of death,” Muhammad said.

The incident has fueled conversations about safety, especially for young women, and the dangers of associating with strangers met under unclear circumstances. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
