A 10-year-old Indiana boy, Dakota Stevens, died after his 340-pound foster mother, Jennifer Lee Wilson, sat on him for several minutes, believing he was “faking” as he gasped for air.

On April 25, police responded to a call about a child not breathing. Officers found Dakota unresponsive with a bruise on his neck and chest. He was rushed to the hospital but later died from catastrophic injuries, including organ damage and hemorrhaging.

Wilson, 48, admitted to sitting on the 90-pound boy for about five minutes as punishment after he ran away. Ring footage captured his desperate screams fading before he stopped moving. Wilson only realized the truth when she noticed his pale eyelids and called for help.

An autopsy confirmed his death was a homicide due to mechanical asphyxia. A neighbor reported Dakota had pleaded for adoption that day, saying he was being hit at home.

Wilson was sentenced in January to six years in prison, with one year suspended. Her foster parent license has been suspended and is under review.
