A tragic bus accident in Tangua, Colombia, claimed 13 lives and injured 28 others on a road connecting Pasto to Ipiales. Transport Minister María Constanza García Alicastro expressed condolences on behalf of the national government.
The bus, carrying 42 passengers to Santuario de las Lajas near the Ecuadorian border, crashed on a curved section of the Pasto-Rumichaca highway. Authorities suspect mechanical failure and excessive speed as possible causes. Narino Governor Luis Alfonso Escobar suggested the driver may have taken an alternate route to avoid tolls.
President Gustavo Petro confirmed law enforcement led the emergency response. The accident follows another recent crash in France, where a bus carrying Colombian citizens from Andorra to Barcelona crashed, killing two and injuring dozens.
