A teenage boy was bitten by a shark during a lifeguard training camp but remains calm and optimistic about the experience.
14-year-old Dempsey Manhart from Flagler County, Florida, was participating in a junior lifeguard training program at Volusia County Beach when he was bitten by a shark on July 8. The shark attacked his right calf, leaving a wound that required 17 stitches. The teen explained that he accidentally landed on the shark while diving, and it bit him when it became tangled with his legs.
Despite the frightening encounter, Manhart remains unfazed and said he’s not afraid to return to the water, seeing the incident as rare. He emphasized that it’s unlikely to happen again.
Meanwhile, Florida remains the shark bite capital of the world, with an average of 19 attacks reported each year.
