Warwick Davis delivered a heartfelt tribute to his late wife, Samantha, during his acceptance speech at the 78th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) held at London’s Royal Festival Hall on February 16.

The 55-year-old Willow and Harry Potter star received the prestigious BAFTA Fellowship for his outstanding contribution to film and television. Presented the award by co-star Tom Felton, Davis began with lighthearted jokes but soon became emotional when speaking about Samantha, who passed away on March 24, 2024, at age 53.

“Above all, I would like to dedicate and thank my wonderful wife, Sammy,” Davis said, his voice breaking. “She was always so supportive of my career and encouraged me to grab every opportunity with both hands.”

Their children, Annabelle (27) and Harrison (21), were seen in tears during the touching tribute. Davis also thanked someone he referred to as “Sponge” for helping him heal.

Fans flooded social media with messages of support. “I wasn’t expecting to get teary watching the BAFTAs, but Warwick Davis has set me off,” one fan wrote.

Warwick and Samantha shared a life marked by love and challenges, including the tragic loss of their firstborn son and Samantha’s battle with sepsis in 2019. Following her passing, Warwick has taken legal action against University College London Hospital over allegations of medical negligence, with an inquest pending.

Davis concluded his emotional speech: “Thank you to BAFTA from the bottom of my heart for this incredible honor. I shall treasure it always. See you in the movies!”
